Business Recycling

Whether or not your business uses the City of Buffalo's curbside collections services, you owe it to your community to develop a recycling program.

Why should your business recycle?

There are any number of reasons why a business should recycle, but the bottom line is that it makes for a healthier and more prosperous community. Committing to a recycling program also:

  • shows your customers you care about the environment,
  • saves community resources and tax dollars,
  • means fewer garbage totes are needed, and
  • reduces litter on the street.

But if that isn't enough, remember that according to New York State law, it is illegal for recyclables to be thrown into the garbage stream. The City of Buffalo is making it easy for your business to comply by making recycing free and by providing your business with a recycling container.

Materials reuse and salvage

A great deal of what often finds its way into the garbage stream from businesses could actually be directed toward reuse or salvage. Visit our materials reuse page or view salvage companies listed in our resources directory for more information.

Waste Audits

Erie County's Office of Solid Waste offers a free waste audit that can help you improve your waste management and save money in the process. To schedule an audit, call 858-6370 or email the department at recycle@erie.gov.
