Residential Recycling
Buffalo currently recycles about 6.5% of its solid waste, a rate well below the national average of 27%. Many of our residents do not see this as a crucial problem, but there is a lot more to this issue than just reducing what we send to a landfill. Consider:
- Increasing our recycling rate by a mere 1% will bring an additional $72,000 into the city coffers. That's money well spent on projects and programs that can improve the quality of life in our city.
- Recycling creates jobs - for every job created at landfills to handle our trash, recycling creates six! For an area that is in desperate need of jobs, this is a very important benefit.
- Included as a part of this site is a comprehense recycling menu, detailing what to recycle as part of the City's curbside recycling program. You'll also find a recycling and reuse directory with information about how to properly recycle items not included as a part of the curbside program.
There are many more benefits to recycling. For more information, check out recycling facts on this site.
Also available here is information for business recyclers, a look at what we're doing in our schools, a calendar with recycling-related events and dates, and lots of links to recycling resources on the web.
